Description
Turkoman Silk Kurteh. Rare item from Margus Tekke Tribe. TOP Collectors! Turkmens, Turkomans are the majority population of current Turkmenistan (Central Asia), a land of Parthian Empire (Alexander the Great) and one of the Silk Route countries. Turkmens are recognized widely for their folk art Super rich silk embroidery ( keshte) on finest and very tight dark green ( almost black) hand loomed pure silk fabric. All hand made, including sewing work. All natural dyes (silk base and silk embroidery- amazing color palette). These coats are so rare, even in Turkmenistan, that I suspect they serve a special purpose, made only by a Tekke Tribe, living in the territories of ancient Margus ( Merv) . Do not miss the opportunity to have one of these in your collection. Look at the close-up of silk embroidery on hand loomed silk, it's unbelievable hand work, so tight and intricate. Early 1950s in excellent never worn condition- please see photos. No mechanical stitches. Approximate size - L. Vertical length - 42", from armpit to armpit - 27", sleeves (wide): from neck - 33". If you need more details, please ask. Place of origin - Merv region, Turkestan. This piece would make a perfect item for your Orientalia collection as well as great Turkoman outfit.
