SILK BURNOUT SHIBORI Start Price USD 9.99 Current Price USD 517.77 Time Left - Bid Count 12 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Saturday, November 15, 2008 End Time Saturday, November 22, 2008 Location Orinda, California See more about 'NWT CARTER SMITH SILK SHIBORI KIMONO ART TO WEAR 56"B' Description IT IS TIME TO GIVE AND RECEIVE   I know that we are all very preoccupied with our own lives!  As I was literally shooting this AWE INSPIRING, JEWEL TONED CARTER SMITH SILK BURNOUT SHIBORI KIMONO, I got an email from a wonderful buyer of mine who is a Unity Minister.  She was writing me because one of her friends and the soloist in their church choir, lost her house today in the Santa Barbara Fire and she literally escaped with her son, her dog and her own life.  I was touched that Linda wrote me because she wanted to know if I knew of anywhere she could get some clothes for her church member.  The woman is a mermaid from our very own tribe and I am putting out the siren's call to any of you who have some nice clothing that would give hope to a 6' tall mermaid who is a size 1X.  If you remember my New Orleans project, then you know that through my OPERATION TRANSFORMATION, you donated 200 boxes of clothing to the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans.  This enabled me to drive down there and do 300 full wardrobe "makeovers" as I called them for families who had literally nothing.  I called it a makeover and we filmed it so that it would have the cachet of a cool television show instead of a homeless hand out which they were very tired of.  We made it a party and celebration and I have never seen happier people in my entire life, than those amazing courageous survivors of Katrina as they tried on the clothing you donated to them.  This morning I was worried because Kai's playdate cancelled and I was going to have to work with her in the background all day.  Well, that sure paled to Linda's friend losing everything!  I am putting out the mermaid clarion call again, and ask if you have anything a 6' mermaid would feel TRANSCENDENT, INSPIRED AND LOVED in, please create a box for her.  I am on my 2nd box and have scarves, jewelry and all kinds of soul gifts in it already.  For me Christmas is about giving, and for me Christmas started today!  If you have some wonderful things for Linda's friend, please email me at dfloeter@aol.com and I will link you directly with Linda.  Now is the time for us to appeal to our better angels and rise to help out!  It is our mandate to make sure this wounded songbird, can sing again!   This is an amazing piece, brand new with tags, by the uber wonderful Carter Smith made by Carter Smith with his then-wife, Teri.  I don't have to tell you who Carter Smith is I'm sure.  He is to many, the king of the art to wear world and most definitely he is the monarch of hand dyed silk shibori.  Museums have done exhibitions of his stunning shibori and his work has brought many of us to our knees.  Carter Smith's shibori designs are utterly original, genius, breathtaking and intricate.  Oh...and EXPENSIVE.  You can't buy anything by Carter Smith for under $800...and I'm talking a tee shirt or a scarf.  I know this because when I went to Origins in Santa Fe where they sold his stuff the kimonos started...started mind you, at $1,800...and those were short and sheer!  This diva is so eye popping and unique that YOU MUST HAVE IT!  When Carter designed with Teri Jo, his designs took some very cool twists and turns.  A woman's eye perhaps, but Teri Jo's influence created a line that flowed with grace, beauty and flattering lines.  Not that his work didn't before, and doesn't now, but the Carter & Teri label has some really wonderful pieces that clearly aren't being made any more.  If you are new to Carter Smith's work, let me share some pictures of his work from his website.     I guess you can see what I mean, when I say he is AWE-INSPIRING!  You will very rarely find a piece of Carter Smith on eBay -- I've listed a few pieces, but they are hard to come by because once you have one, you're not about to give it up!   This piece is no exception.  The base kimono is black silk burnout, and the rest of kimono is shimmering jewel toned shibori in ruby red, topaz gold, tuquoise, jade and the rest of the jewel family!  The kimono is designed in a tabard style sleeve with an attached sleeve.  Look at the side view pictures for this.  This epic piece still has the original price tag with $1,350 on it!  Where else can you get such amazing art to wear first market pieces that start at $9.99????  The bust is 56", it has 16" side slits and is 37" long.  This is a keeper of a minx!
