The purse has a beautiful sterling silver frame of simple stepped design, with engine turned decoration, with engine turned decoration,overlaid with classical swags and mounted with cabochon cut amethysts. The bag section of the purse has been produced from wonderful trellis design silver mesh. The purse has a matching silver chain handle with chatelaine type finger loop. An identical Georg Scheid, and be seen on page 269 of "Bags" by the Pepin Press, and is housed at the Museum of Bags and Purses, Amsterdam.MARKSThe purse is marked with the Austrian silver mark, 900 for sterling silver, and the makers mark GAS for Georg Adam Scheid.AGECirca 1900.The frame measures 13cm (5¼") wide and 16cm (6¼") high (not including the handle), with the total weight being 164.8 grams. The purse is in an excellent condition for age, with no major damage to the silver (except for minor surface scratches). One of the chain links has snapped, although this could be repaired, and came be seen on the 7th photograph.
