In all my years of buying/selling/collecting vintage clothing and costumes, this is, BY FAR, one of the most incredible pieces that I have come across....you will literally gasp when you see it in person!!! As a girl who is seldom at a loss for words, I really can't begin to articulate just how gorgeous, rare and unusual this is....from the BRILLIANT, almost ELECTRIC shade of royal purple velvet....to the STUNNING wide band of heavy soutache-like trim edging the hood,going down the front and accenting the sleeves in a color that is between taupe and army green....to the FABULOUS trim dangling from the sleeves in ecru with glittering hematite glass beads...to the TOTAL DRAMA of the design...long drippy sleeves that come down 46 in. to the long pointed hood that extends down 36 in. from the top edge....to the train in the back that extends out 81 in. from middle center neckline to hem...this is BEYOND WORDS!!! This exceptional piece comes down straight in the front and measures 53 in. from top of the shoulder to hem, the sleeves are 22 in. long, and as stated, drip down an amazing 46 in. from the cuff, with 44 in. chest, 15 in. shoulder to shoulder seam and again, it is 81 in. from center neckline to hem in the back. It is lined in a stunning, very Deco pale grey patterned silk and the label is 'Herrmann Costume Co. New York' a famous early costume company. In near EXCELLENT condition for being over 100 yrs. old and a piece worn by many on stage. As you can see there are only 4 of the long dangles remaining....I'd put one on the corner of each sleeve and 2 at the end of the hood were it mine but wanted to leave as is and let the buyer decide. The silk is worn and dirty at the neckline, hood and inside edge of the sleeves in particular and it's a bit musty from being stored in a steamer trunk for many years-nothing beyond normal wear for a piece such as this. The velvet is SPECTACULAR, and in near mint condition, the trim is all intact and it closes with heavy hooks on the inside (some are missing)with long purple tassels at the neck. I will also note that the label was hanging by a few threads when I bought it, and has since come off but I have it and will carefully pin it to the lining (my sewing is atrocious) One of the most INCREDIBLE costume pieces that I've had....the picture do it no justice at all!!!!!!
